Something in Particular is a full-length documentary being filmed across the South and an accompanying interactive website. Both will chronicle the people and organizations driving creativity in the South today.
The South possesses its own style, its own history and culture which informs its art - that Something in Particular that makes it unique. Yet we feel that we remain overlooked as a creative force, nationally and abroad. By making this video, we hope to bring attention to the need for both recognition and funding of the arts in the South.
In the current depressed economy, creative thinkers like artists, designers and social leaders can play a key role in developing the economy of the future by creating beautiful public works, improving cities’ quality of life and creating jobs. The role of creativity, however, is too often overlooked. The swelling ranks of creative minds in the South could reinvigorate its economy, and its reputation.
Three self-proclaimed creatives will embark on a 13 city, 30 day trip this March to undertake the bulk of the filming and research for the project. In addition interviews have already begun in Atlanta and surrounding areas (keep an eye out for them on our blog). While we will not be able to cover all the creative people and places of the South in our journey, we hope it is a strong foundation to a project that can continue on, providing a resource to display the great art, design and innovation taking place across the South.
Thanks y'all.
